Sage has been a teaching artist for over 15 years. She has worked for organizations such as: The Kennedy Center, Washington National Opera, Wolftrap, National Theatre, Ford's Theatre, Duke Ellington, Sheridan School, Langley School, Sunrise Academy, and more. Sage teaches the three C's: Communicate, Correct, and Confidence with all of her residencies. She believes that a child who can learn to communicate effectively and self-correct; will then find the confidence to accomplish any goal. She does this by helping students develop their writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills, while cultivating and maturing their leadership skills. Sage believes, engaging with a child it produces a positive effect, encouraging the child's self-esteem to grow. This is Sage's ultimate goal; to impact students and have them connect to a wholesome community arts program, to develop and encourage their self-esteem, and to integrate the arts into their academic career.

This residency will teach students play writing while acting as a bridge between creative and expository writing, and challenges the students to perform and present their work to an audience. The imperative skills of writing (outlining, revision, and development) will be taught while encouraging the students to express themselves artistically through drama. The students will write a script, direct, stage manage, and act their play for their peers, faculty, and parents. The course will provide structure and discipline as the students learn with respect, communicate clearly and efficiently, write with purpose and knowledge, and develop team building abilities; all while having an engaging and exciting experience. This residency can be adapted for students between the grades of Preschool-12th. It can also incorporate subjects curriculum being taught in the classroom.
This residency incorporates The Future Artist with an advanced production component. Students will learn the skills needed to write their own play, but then direct and produce professional actors to perform their scripts. The students will learn all the necessary requirements needed to produced a play performance including: directing, stage management, costumes and prop management, casting, and budgeting. The course will end with a live performance of the student's play featuring the professional actors they directed. This is an ambitious residency that equips the students with the skills needed to becomes great leaders. They will learn how to communicate to lead with respect, and the confidence to become a decision maker. This program can be adapted for students between 3rd-12th grades.
This residency will teach your students the basics of play writing and puppetry. Designed to challenge students to perform and present their work to an audience. The residency combines a basic writing curriculum coupled with the tools needed to create and produce a live puppet show. The course will provide structure and discipline as the students learn how to create puppets and act with them. The students will design and make their own felt hand puppet. The children will have an engaging and fun experience while learning how to communicate through the art of writing and puppetry.
